THURBER - M.L. "Slim" Baxter, 71, a tool grinder for General Dynamics who retired in 1989 after 421/2 years, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at Bedford Baptist Temple, 2403 Bedford Road in Bedford. Masonic burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Baumgardner Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

Memorials: Shriner's Hospital, c/o Moslah Temple for Children, P.O. Box 1320, Fort Worth, Texas 76101.

M.L. Baxter was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Iowa Park, Texas. He was a member of Bedford Baptist Temple and the Masonic Lodge of Lake Worth No. 1410. He was the first president of the Homeowners Association of Quail Valley.

Survivors: Wife of 52 years, Ruby Baxter of Thurber; son, Jimmy and wife, Myra Baxter, of Covington; daughters, Cindy and husband, John Holmes, of Covington and Sandy and husband, Brad Porter, of Lake Charles, La.; brothers, Troy W. Baxter of Fort Worth, Bobby Gene Baxter of Amarillo and Jerry Baxter of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Chris and wife, Tonya Baxter, Era Dawn and husband, Glen Banfield, Cassandra and Shawn Holmes, Andrew Porter, and Roy Dale Dover; great-grandchild, James Baxter; many nieces and nephews; and Roy Cryer of Fort Worth and Roy Lynn Dover of Mineral Wells.
