The following obituary was read at the funeral:
"Phebe Ann Atto, eldest daughter of Alexander and Adaline L. Ogdon was born near Newport, Indiana, August 9, 1846 and departed this life October 31st 1917, aged 71 years, 2 months and 22 days. In her early years, with her parents, she moved 2 1/2 miles south west of Newman, Ill., where she resided until her marriage. On March 19th, 1866, she was united with Daniel Atto and to this union were born nine children and four survive her. She, with her husband, moved to a farm 21/2 miles north east of Newman where they lived for three years then moved back to her old home southwest of Newman where she lived until her death.
In her home life and with her associations with her friends and neighbors, she maintained the highest standard of right and justice to all and as a wife and mother her love, kindness and sympathy can only be attested by the love and fidelity borne her by her husband and children. In her late illness she bore her suffering with that implicit faith in Him "that taketh away all pain." She leaves to mourn her loss her husband; two daughters, Lucy J. at home and Mrs. Alma Josserand of Oakland; two sons, Ora O. of Charlotte, N.C. and Ira E., of Newman; her brother Andrew, her step-brother T. E. Johnson of Newman; her step-sister, Mrs. Mollie Smith of Winfield, Kansas and many other relatives and friends."
