LITTLE ROCK [Dillon Co.]—Joseph Grady Alford, 81, died in a Bennettsville hospital Monday after a long illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Whitner Funeral Home in Bennettsville. Burial will be in Carolina Church Cemetery.

Mr. Alford was born in Marion, son of the late D.J. and Catherine Easterling Alford. He was a retired farmer and attended the Marion and Dillon County schools. He was an army veteran of World War I, and a member of the Carolina Presbyterian Church where he was an elder emeritus.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth McLaurin Alford of Little Rock; a son, James Duncan Alford of Little Rock; a daughter, Mrs. P.K. Van Ripper of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Mabelle A. Alford of Dillon, Mrs. Jessie Cottingham of Clio, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hasty of Fayetteville, N.C.; also two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home.
