Bowman was the son of Carlton Jackson and Maria Jackson. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was a member of Sandbed Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia. He was also a member of the Union Brothers And Sisters Of Love Lodge #4.
He was married to Della Lowe Jackson.
