Lillian "Irene" Chaffee, of Montgomery passed away, Friday, January 21, 2011 at Montgomery Nursing Home. She was 96.
Irene was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada on August 20, 1914, the daughter of the late Francis Thorton and Mary Ellen (Smith) Shipman.
She was an Elementary School Teacher. When family asked her, her age, she would say, "1914 you figure it out".
Irene is survived by her three daughters: Phyllis C. Brescia wife of the lateVincent N. Brescia, Mary C. Devitt and her husband Edward, and Nanci Sprague and son-in-law Louis Sprague. Her grandchildren: Stacy Brescia-Spreer and her husband Jeff, L. Stephen Brescia, Megan Devitt-Rose and her husband Rich, Marc Devitt and his wife Colleen, McKew Devitt and his wife Katie, F. Edward Devitt II and his wife Catherine, and Kristyn Sprague and her fiancé Tyler Edwards. Her great-grandchildren: Maia and Hudson Rose, Vincent and Nicholas Brescia, and Eisley Emma Devitt. Her brother: Stanley Shipman and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her, granddaughters: Shari Jo Brescia and Mia Devitt, great-grandson Harrison Rose, her brothers: Raymond, Cecil and Lawrence, and her sisters: Laura Chaffee, Violet Shipman and Edith Petzold.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, January 24th at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery, New York. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 25th at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Montgomery.
