Guy Hamilton Carswell, 76, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Winston-Salem on July 14, 1935 to Robert T. and Mildred Y. Carswell. He was an alumni of Wake Forest University and a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church. Guy spent his working life in construction sales, and in later years thoroughly enjoyed working at SciWorks. He served in the United States Army and was a lifelong active Republican. He served as chairman of the Forsyth County Library Board, and was a member of the NC State Library Comisssion. He was a loyal Wake Forest athletics fan. He loved reading books on history and watching the history channel, and was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan. He was predeceased in death by his parents, a son Guy T. Carswell II, and a brother Robert W. Carswell. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia Inman Carswell; son Michael H. Carswell; sister Annette C. Jordan. brothers Richard Carswell (Peggy) of Orlando, FL and Ronald Carswell (Joan) of Greensboro, NC; stepdaughter Cynthia M. Johannes (Bill) of Greenville, SC and, stepson William Dale Marshall (Tammy) of Wilmington, NC. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Elizabeth M. Hanson (Tim), Laura M. Smith (Rick), Christina J. Burgess, and two grandsons, Joseph Johannes and Jordan Marshall (Jennifer); and four great grandchildren and four nephews and a niece. A Celebration of Guy's Life will be held Monday, July 18, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Parkway. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
