Of North East, PA, a former resident of Washington, D.C. for 57 years, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003. A foreign service officer for the U.S. State Department/USAID serving in Laos for 10 years before retiring in 1975, he was a former economic consultant for Louis Berger & Co. in New Jersey. He wrote for Investor Magazine in Bangkok, where he was a consultant for the Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency from 1964 to 1969. A graduate of the University of Chicago, with a bachelor's degree in anthropology in 1936 and a master's degree in economics, he was a veteran of World War II, receiving several campaign ribbons. Having served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1951 as a photographic intelligence officer, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washington D.C. American Legion and the Foreign Service DACOR Club. He enjoyed writing, golf and running. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Antoinette LeBris Maynard, whom he married in 1946; two daughters, Elizabeth C. Maynard of Eureka, CA and Carol M. Barber and her husband, Joseph, of North East, PA; son, Philip L. Maynard and his wife, Cindi, of McLean, VA and four grandchildren. Burial With Full Military Honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium on Tuesday, July 1, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Gertrude A.
