Rum and Gum Charley was a resident of the Sherwood area. Apparently he was quite a town character. According to one cemetery survey, he was found dead on Charles Delaney's farm and buried on the spot, where Highway 99W is now located. The Oregon highway department identified his grave during construction; his was the only grave, and he was re-interred at Middleton Pioneer Cemetery.
