Thomas J. Creedon, a longtime resident of Moosic, died Tuesday at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, where he was a resident for the past two years. He was the husband of Ann Kokosky Creedon, who died in 2007, and they were married for 58 years.

Tom was born in Moosic, son of the late William F. and Catherine Tigue Creedon, and attended Moosic schools. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca, now Queen of the Apostles Church, and was devoted to attending St. Ann's Novena. A veteran of World War II, Tom served in the European theater for 3½ years, achieving the rank of Tech5 and earned several decorations and citations.

Tom worked for many years in the coal industry for the firm of Harris & Walsh, and later worked as an ironworker. While an ironworker, he was employed in the construction of the PP&L nuclear plant at Berwick.

Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman and a true fan of the Phillies.

Surviving are three daughters, Ann Marie Kumpas and husband, Charles, Clarks Summit; Rosemary Kovich and husband, Joseph, Gouldsboro; and Joan Eibach and husband, Joseph, Scranton; six grandsons, all Eagle Scouts, Charles and Jason Kumpas, Daniel, Timothy and Michael Kovich and Thomas Eibach; two great-grandsons, Colin and Evan Eibach; a brother, Frank, Moosic; nieces and nephews.

Tom was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Leo; and a sister, Catherine Creedon Moran.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Gino Merli Veterans Center for the caring and compassionate care provided to Tom during his stay there.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with Mass at 10 at Queen of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca. Friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m. Interment, All Saints Cemetery, Hollisterville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA 18641; or the Gino Merli Center Activity Fund, 401 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.
