- Donald E. Jeffers, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006, in Union Hospital.
He was a stationery manager for Home Packing Co. for 17 years, before retiring as a supervisor from Alcan.
He was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Riley, to Basil Jeffers and Ethel Davidson Jeffers. He is survived by his wife, Jerry Tarrah Jeffers; daughters, Donna Sampson and her husband Ron of Rosedale, Cherri Hicks and her husband Curt, and Cindy Blanton and her husband Gary, all of Terre Haute; stepsons, John Hubbs and his wife Robin, Jim Hubbs and his wife Joni, all of Terre Haute and Bill Hubbs of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Louellen Weil of Terre Haute; one brother, Gerald Jeffers of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Kathy Wright, Ronnie Sampson and his wife Shelli, Casey Sampson and his wife Amber, Brian Hicks and his wife Heather, Amber Hicks and her companion Mike Reynolds, Jimmy Hubbs, Ashley Hubbs, Will Hubbs and Jessica Hubbs; great-grandchildren, Justin Wood, Austin Wood, Zach Sampson, Josh Sampson, Leah Sampson, Jonathan Hicks, Brianna Hicks, Dustin Carter Jr. and Mikey Reynolds Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Donnie.
He was a World War II veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and the American Legion.
He was a charter member of the Collett Park Horseshoe Club League, managed the American Legion softball team and later was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He loved fishing and playing horseshoes, winning many tournaments.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Andy Weil officiating.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home
