James Eli Martz, son of Henry and Sarah Martz, was born on July 18, 1865, near Mulberry. Surviving are the widow, three sons, Charles, of Gowen, Mich.; Russell and Floyd, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Flora Bochart, of Grand Rapids; ten grandchildren, two brothers, Levi, of Elwood, Ind., and Edward, of Mulberry, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Our older citizens will remember where the old Martz homestead was located. The house stood a little to the southwest of the Lake Erie depot, and the barn was located where Dana Hoch has his coal sheds. Of course, this was before the time the railroad was built through here.
