Algot Carlson aged farmer and an early settler in the Shafer community, died at the Bethesda Hospital in St Paul last Sunday afternoon, after less than a week's illness. He was 77 years old.
Obstruction of the bowel caused his death. He became suddenly ill Monday evening of last week and was brought to the Osceola Hospital the next morning. Thursday noon he was removed to the Bethesda Hospital, where the end came shortly after 4 pm Sunday.
Funeral services are to be conducted Thursday afternoon at the farm home near Shafer at 1:30 and the Chisago Lake Church of Center City at 2:00.
Algot Carlson was born in Sweden on November 12, 1856 and immigrated to America in 1872, landing at Franconia. He found work with an uncle, then spent several years working in logging camps on the St Croix River, also on the Wyoming, Taylors Falls railroad branch line. Later he bought the farm at Shafer, which he has since operated and where he made his home.
Soon after his arrival in the community he was confirmed in the Center City Church of which he is still a member. About 43 years ago he was joined in marriage to Hulda Christina Larson, who had also come to America from the old country. Mrs. Carlson passed away on November 11, 1930.
He leaves one son and four daughters, one brother, S F Carlson of Shafer, six grandchildren besides other relatives and friends. The children are Mrs. Amandros Peterson of Stockholm, South Dakota, Mrs Harry Swenson of Shafer, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, Minneapolis, Mrs Albin Johnson, Minneapolis, and Edward J Carlson on the home farm.
