STRUTHERS - Edward H. Roofner, 85, passed away July 7, 2011, at the Hospice House.
Mr. Roofner was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Kittanning, Pa., son of Charles and Sarah Davis Roofner Sr.
He was a graduate of Kittanning High School, attended Penn State University, graduated from Washington and Jefferson College with his Bachelor's and received his Master's from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Roofner worked for the United States Department of Defense as the Director of Education Services in Germany, where he was responsible for training the soldiers in their field of expertise and for the soldiers college degree. Mr. Roofner was a World War II veteran, serving with Company G 347th Infantry and was a recipient of the European Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star.
He was a member of 32nd Degree Mason at Scottish Rite Valley of Cloudersport, Pa., where he had been a 60 year member and a member of Kittanning East Brady Lodge 244 F.&A.M. in Worthington, Pa. He enjoyed and loved his model trains, his pets and playing the organ.
Surviving are his wife, the former Bettie J. Hofmann, whom he married Jan. 1, 1974; a daughter, Roni J. (Fred) Owens of Poland; a granddaughter, Alexa J. Miller of Poland; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda J. Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles H. Roofner Jr.; and a sister, Catherine Baum.
Private services will be held at the Cunningham Becker Funeral Home in Poland on Monday. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
