An illegitimate daughter of Roswell Buck and Elizabeth ____.

Not much is known for certain...she could be an unnamed child who died Sep 9,1948, or an unnamed daughter born Oct 28,1854 as listed in Colrain Vital Records, or she could be an entirely different child. A child Sarah, aged 9, is listed as a child of Roswell and (Sarah) Elizabeth in the 1850 census in Colrain. She is also listed in 1860, aged 19.

More recent research shows that a Sarah Elizabeth Buck married George Otis Fitch on Jul 22,1861 at Colrain,MA. This marriage record states parents as Roswell and *Elizabeth*. Then there is a Sarah, indexed as Sarah "Tulek", who married Charles Gleason Kendrick on Oct 30,1869 at Colrain,MA. Perhaps "Tulek" is a guess because the record is so hard to make out...Sarah's parents are listed as Roswell and Susan R. Perhaps Tulek could be Fitch. Charles Gleason Kendrick and Sarah divorced by 1880 (when he is listed as divorced).

In the 1870 census Charles Kendrick is found in Heath,MA with Sarah [his 2nd wife] aged 29, and Lyman Kendrick aged 2 yrs and a William Fitch aged 9 yrs, born c1861, perhaps Sarah's son?

Finally, there is a marriage record of Sarah Fitch and Elis/Elie/Eli A Wood at Colrain,MA on Jul 8,1876. Sarah is listed as aged 35, a daughter of Roswell and Elizabeth Buck, and the marriage is listed as her third. Elis was born in Champlain,NY about 1826, a son of John and Mary Wood, and the marriage is listed as his second marriage.

Eli and Sarah Wood, and son William Fitch aged 19 are found in the 1880 census in Montague Twp, Lewis Co, NY in 1880, and Eli and Sarah are found there in 1900. She is mentioned as being the mother of one child, still living in 1900. Her birth is listed as May 1841 in Massachusetts, and Eli's is listed as Nov 1823 in New York. Eli died in 1815 and is buried here. Sarah died in 1904 and is buried here.

In conclusion, if this memorial in North River Cemetery is for Sarah (Buck) Fitch Kendrick Wood, it is likely a cenotaph.
