Actor. Born in Marianna, Arkansas, he began his career in the early 1930s as a stage performer and made his film debut as Gabriel the Angel in "The Green Pastures" (1936). A popular character performer he appeared in "It's A Great Life" (1936), "The Green Pastures" (1936), "Underworld" (1937), "Gone With The Wind" (1939), White Cargo" (1942), "Reap The Wild Wind" (1942) and "Cabin In The Sky" (1943). He died in Harlem Hospital after a brief illness on Tuesday, January 4, 1949.
