Gilmore Iver Borslien, 85, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on June 16, 1926 in rural Fertile, MN to Bernhard and Clara (Dale) Borslien. Gilmore was baptized and confirmed at First Evanger Lutheran Church, Fertile. He attended Rural School District #86 near his home. Following his schooling, Gilmore worked on the family farm. He entered the United States Army on January 22, 1945, proudly serving in the Philippines. Gilmore was honorably discharged on December 2, 1946 after achieving the rank of sergeant. He moved to Thief River Falls, MN and worked at Northern Wood Work.

On May 21, 1950, Gilmore was united in marriage to Emma Bondley of Thief River Falls, MN. They moved to Owatonna, MN in 1952 where he continued in the woodworking field. In 1954, Gilmore accepted a position with Eickhof Millworks of Crookston. He worked there until the early 1980s, ultimately earning the position of shop superintendent. He then opened his own woodworking shop, making cabinets and repairing wood items. He is well known throughout the area for his meticulous attention to detail. He was also a long-time independent Amsoil dealer.

Gilmore was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, serving in various positions. He was involved in many organizations, such as: Crookston Reserve Police Force, American Legion, VFW, Kiwanis, Polk County Pioneer Museum board, and DAV. His participation in these organizations has made our community a better place to live.

Gilmore and Emma enjoyed traveling, even as far away as Norway and Sicily. He enjoyed movies, television, challenging work, family gatherings and a good visit over coffee with friends. Card games at family gatherings always turned into an opportunity to "razz" Grandpa. Gilmore was honest, hard-working and devoted to his faith and his family.

May God richly bless the memory of Gilmore Borslien.
