Born in Beebe Plain, Stanstead, Quebec, Ethel was the daughter of George Peck from England and his wife Mary from the United States.

After Pardon's father, sister and brother-in-law died the fall of 1916 from Trichinosis, he and Ethel took in their orphaned nephew, Oscar Wilcox Heath.

Oscar's sister Rosetta Jean, known as R. Jean, was just a baby; the child's uncle and his wife informally adopted her. The sad story has been passed down through the family for over 100 years.

As young teenagers, my dad and R. Jean always thought they would get married! But Dad married another Jean who became R. Jean's big sister at McGill. The three were best friends for a lifetime.
