U.S. Congressman. He attended William Jewell College, was graduated from Northwestern University Law School Illinois, in 1914, was admitted to the bar in 1915 and proceeded to practice law in Potosi, Missouri. He was prosecuting attorney of Washington County, (1917-18) and served in World War I as Lieutenant in the United States Army, (1918-19). After the war, he was a member of the board of trustees of Arcadia, Missouri, (1928-29), a member of Ironton Arcadia School Board, (1932-33) and administrator of the Missouri State Social Security Commission, (1941-45). In 1947, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was general counsel for Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington, D.C., (1953-61).
