Pvt. Lewis Franklin Cantrell, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T Cantrell, (Mary Marcum Cantrell), of Greensburg, was killed in action in Belgium on January 7th, 1945, according to a telegram from the War Department received last weekend by his parents.
Lewis Franklin had been in the service since January 24, 1944 and had been serving overseas since last July, with the Adjutant General's headquarters in Belgium.
He is a graduate of Geensburg High School in the class of 1942, where he was an outstanding basketball player, member of the Honor Club, orchestra, annual staff and softball league and F. F.A. reporter. After graduation he attended the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister: Miss Ann Elizabeth Cantrell.
