DANIEL J. FITZGERALD
Daniel J. Fitzgerald, 74, U.S. Navy Veteran of World War I, who was stationed at Cork, Ireland, and a longtime N.E. Tel & Tel Co. employee here until illness prevented, died early this morning at the Veteran's hospital in Northampton, Mass.
Mr. Fitzgerald, a son of Michael J. and Catherine (Cronan) Fitzgerald, was born in Gardner, Mass., May 10, 1892 and had attended Gardner schools and Hebron Academy at Hebron, Maine. He came to Bennington in March 1915 and was employed by the telephone company until he was taken ill 13 years ago. He married the former Rose M. Morrissey Aug 21, 1922 in St. Francis de Sales Church, the Rev. Thomas R. Carty officiating.
His long service with the telephone company was recognized. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. His other affliations included Bennington Council No. 307, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society of St. Francis de Sales Church, of which he was a communicant.
Survivors are his wife; one sister, Mrs. Charles Kirby of Pasadena, Calif.; also nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday at 8:30 am with a prayer and in St. Francis de Sales Church at 9 where a Requiem High Mass will be offered. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Chapel. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm when the family will be in attendance. There will be recitation of the Rosary at the funeral home at 8 pm. The Knights of Columbus will meet at this time to recite the Rosary.
