U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine at Harvard Medical University, was licensed a physician and served as a surgeon during the War of 1812. After the war, he was in charge of the general military hospital near Buffalo, New York, until his resignation in 1815. Returning to Maine, he practiced medicine in Hallowell, (1815-19) and at Norridgewock, (1819-30). In 1831, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress, serving until 1833. After his term, he was superintendent of the Maine State Hospital for the insane, (1845-51) and practiced medicine until his death at age 92.
