He was born March 2, 1929, in Wolf Point to Alice and John Applegren. The family moved to Camas Prairie, where his mother was later remarried to Cecil Argo. He attended school in Camas Prairie and Hot Springs.
John married Delores Gollehon on Dec. 29, 1954. They started their family of six girls in Hot Springs, later moving to Plains.
John had a lifelong passion for the outdoors - whether he was working or playing.
His working years were spent as a logger, heavy equipment operator and mechanic. His creativeness and ability to see beauty, along with his interest in the unlikeliest of things (even tree roots), is a quality that is such a gift for the rest of us whose lives are so enriched by his originality and perspective and love of nature. When he saw wildflowers, he would stop to make a perfect bouquet to share with someone for only a smile in return. John had an incredible sense of humor and started every day with a goal of finding a way to bring humor to it just to see someone smile. He had a "Johnny Carson humor with Paul Newman eyes."
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; and his sister, Mary.
