Dr. Henry Carson Castles was an early graduate of Erskine College of South Carolina. Soon after graduation he began the practice of medicine in Fairfield, SC, his native district. About this time, on Sept. 23, 1851, he married Sara Ann Watt(1832-1905) . He was born in Fairfield County to Henry Carson Castles (1797-1870) and Margaret Sterling(1797-1856). Soon after the marriage they moved to Chester Co. to be near Catholic Presbyterian Church, where he was elected a ruling elder. Shortly before the war, he moved the family to Smyrna, York, South Carolina, to be near his brother, Rev. James Robinson Castles, pastor of Smyrna ARP Church where he was received as a ruling elder. He died at the age of 49, in 1869 of a neglected hernia. Eight small children were left.
