US NAVY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA, VIETNAM
The son of Patrick Healy and Nellie Keane, he graduated from Fenwick High School with honors. He enlisted in the US Navy on July 1, 1943, participated in the V-12 program and left the service on May 10, 1946. He completed his medical training at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1948. Commissioned in the US Navy, he served as a Marine Medical Battalion Surgeon from March 15, 1951 through March 15, 1953. He served in the Reserves until the 1970's.
Certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1956, he practiced radiology in the Dallas area in several hospitals as well as a private office. In the 1970's, he was certified by the Board of Addiction Medicine. He was the Medical Director at the Alcoholism, Treatment and Recovery Center in Dallas until 1982, working to treat indigent alcoholics with potential to return to the workplace. He was Medical Director at Baylor-Parkside Lodge from 1983-1988 and the Charter Behavioral Health from 1987-1998. He then served as an Addiction Medical Specialist at Baylor Richardson Hospital from 1998 to his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine from its inception and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the American Medical Association.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, was an avid reader of history and politics, and nothing made him happier than to help his patients get well to live healthy, sober lives. He was survived by his wife; seven daughters; one son; two brothers; two sisters; and 13 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church on September 23, 2008; followed by internment at the Beaufort National Cemetery. (includes information from his obituary published in The Dallas Morning News - Tuesday, September 16, 2008)
