GARDNER, Mass. – George Alan Campbell, 61, of 106 Chapel St., died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at home. He was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Old Town, son of the late Roy G. and the late Mary E. (Beal) Campbell.

He was raised and educated in Milford, and attended the University of Maine. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked in the construction and carpentry fields and also worked for a paper mill while residing in Maine. George was in an accident in 1982 and rendered comatose for 18 months. He suffered serious injuries that left him disabled. In 1986, he was welcomed into the home of his brother, Paul and his wife, Alice, in Gardner, Mass., and was a beloved member of their family. He worked for Gardner-Athol Area Mental Health Association's workshop for five years and also for Montachusett Industrial Resource program for 10 years until retiring three years ago. George was a longtime member of Crystal House, Gardner, Mass. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Gardner, Mass.

He leaves two brothers, Paul Campbell and his wife, Alice, of Gardner, Mass., and Walter Campbell and his wife, Judy, of Milford; four nephews, Mike Campbell and his wife, Julie (Feltmarch), of Gardner, Mass., Jim Campbell and his wife, Dr. Debra (Latour), of Woodstock, Conn., Paul Campbell of Gardner, Mass., and Roger Campbell and his wife, Sarah, of Virginia; great-nephews, Marcus Campbell of Gardner, Mass., Michael Campbell of Gardner, Mass., Hunter Campbell and Ethan Campbell both of Woodstock, Conn.; and a great-niece, Paige Campbell of Woodstock, Conn.

Burial will be held at Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, Mass. (Bangor Daily News posted 6/29/2011)
