Willimantic - Amelia Zawacki Ennis Wojick passed away Wednesday June 15, 2011 at the Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic, CT. She was 89.

Born in Norwich, CT, on February 5, 1922, she was the fourth of 13 children of the late Boleslaw and Amelia Polak Zawacki. She attended Norwich Schools, graduating from the Norwich Free Academy in 1939. Through the years, she worked as a sales clerk in several local businesses, a bank teller, and for a short time as a licensed hairdresser.

She married her first husband, Robert E. Ennis of Denver, CO, a WWII submariner, in 1943. Widowed that same year, when the entire crew of the USS Corvina was lost in a torpedo attack in the South Pacific, Amelia gave birth to their daughter, Amelia (called Bobbie after her father) in May 1944.

In 1952 she married Adolph "Ding" Wojick, of Willimantic, CT, an accountant for Capitol Garage, and later Willimantic's postmaster. Making their home in Willimantic, they had two sons, Kenneth and Gregory. During those years, she enjoyed travel, dabbling in the stock market, and exercising her considerable green thumb.

She is survived by her daughter Amelia Ennis McCarron and husband Dr. William McCarron of Austin, TX; her son Kenneth John Wojick of East Haddam CT; her son Gregory Joseph Wojick and wife Pandora of Wilton, CT; her grandchildren Katherine McCarron and husband Ben Neaderland of Alexandria VA; Daniel McCarron of Fort Worth TX, and Kara and Christopher Wojick of Wilton, CT; and her great grandchildren Quentin and Georgia Neaderland of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her sister Albina Zawacki Czapski of Norwich, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

Wojick; sisters, Philomena Haley, Pauline Lodyko, and Hermaine "Mickey" Denis, as well as Elizabeth, Marcella, Adelaide, who died in childhood; brothers Benjamin, Raymond, Mathew, and Alexander Zawacki, as well as one other brother who died at birth.
