LUXEMBURG NEWS, Friday, February 24, 1928: Aged Resident of Pilsen Died Sunday Following Brief Illness - Mrs. Wenzel Steffel Who Passed Away at the Home of Her Son Had Been a Resident of Pilsen for Nearly Sixty Years--Came to America With Her Husband When 24 Years of Age - Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday Morning From The Catholic Church at Pilsen
Pilsen -- Mrs. Wenzel Steffel, nee Anna Katerosky, died at the home of her son Frank on the old homestead at Pilsen last Sunday morning at the hour of 3:30 o'clock after an illness of about three weeks during which time she suffered a paralyctic stroke. The deceased had been seriously ill for five days. She was born in Bohemia on February 22, 1842, and was married in that country to Wenzel Steffel at the age of nineteen years. When twenty-four years of age she accompanied her husband to this country and settled on the farm upon which she passed away and now owned by her son. Had she lived a few days longer she would have reached the age of eighty-six years. Her husband preceded her to death fifteen years ago. Both were well known and highly respected residents of this community.
Surviving are six children, Frank who resides on the old homestead at Pilsen; Mrs. Joseph Nemetz of Ashland; Mrs. Simon Nemetz of Pilsen; Mrs. Frank Wessely of Spruce; Mrs. M. J. Mahlik of Pilsen; and Joseph Steffel of Green Bay. Twenty-eight grand children and eighteen great-grand children also mourn her death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock from the St. Joseph's Catholic church at Pilsen. Reverend Vorlichek of Stangelville officiated at the last sad rites. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends of the deceased.
The pallbearers were Edward Steffel, Michael Steffel, George Steffel, Joseph Mahlik, Joseph Wessely and Alvin Cherney, all grand children with the exception of the latter.
