Mrs. Balanda was born in Riviere-du-loup, Quebec, Canada, March 10, 1920, daughter of the late Donat and Laura (Dube) Beaulieu. She was raised in Vermont, moved to Waterbury in 1936 and settled in Watertown in 1966. She was employed by the Bristol Company in Waterbury until her retirement. She dedicated her life to her family. A nurturing caregiver, she was a gourmet cook with a sharp, witty sense of humor and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Mrs. Balanda leaves two sons, Lawrence Balanda of Winter Springs, Fla., and Richard Balanda of Watertown; three daughters, Denise Perkins of Jackson, N.H., Deborah Howe of Pomfret Center, and Nichole Brynga of Harpswell, Maine; a brother, Richard Beaulieu of Watertown; four sisters, Yvette Narcisso of California, Noella Beaulieu of Pomfret Center, Teresa Warner of Florida, and Michelle Weiss of California; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Thursday at the Shrine of St. Anne for Mothers, 515 South Main St., Waterbury. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial of ashes will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
