Charlie was the third and youngest child of Charles and Lou Thomas, and brother of Carmen Thomas Struble and Gladys Thomas Gonnella. Charlie was raised at 9 Prospect Place NE in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward neighborhood (1920 Census), and 691 Grady Place, SW in Atlanta's West End (1930 Census). He attended Commercial High School.Charlie married Bernice Lee from Stroud, Alabama in 1934. They lived in Atlanta, then briefly in Augusta, Ga., then back in Atlanta at 545 Seal Place NE and 1806 Alvarado Terrace SW. Charlie and Bernice had three children: the late Charles M. Thomas III, Gloria Jeanne Thomas, and Patricia Lee Thomas.Charlie worked as a district sales manager for Sunnyland Packing Company of Thomasville, Ga. Charlie and Bernice were members of Gordon Street Presbyterian Church in West End. They were very active at the Cascade-East Point Elks Club and Charlie enjoyed playing cards, golf and tennis.Charlie died unexpectedly of a heart attack after attending a friend's retirement dinner at a downtown Atlanta hotel. He was 56 years old.Charlie's son Charles III died two years later of leukemia. Gloria Thomas Colley lives in Alpharetta , Ga. and Patricia Thomas North lives in Gainesville, Fl. (August 2011).
