My great-great-grandmother.

Martha's family migrated from Hull, Ontario, Canada to Michigan in the 1800's. She and her husband Peter DeMars, migrated there from Canada in 1874. Peter went door to door through a heavily forested area to collect donations to build the first church in Brunswick, St. Michael's Parish. Until the Church was completed, he and Martha held services in their log home, where a travelling Priest used a dresser for a pulpit. The dresser is still in the DeMars family today. The farm was in the family until 2000. The home they built after the log home is still standing and in use by the people who currently own the farm.

Peter and Martha were buried in the cemetery behind the Church. The original building was destroyed by fire, but a new one was built in its place.
