John Brecht, 73, 1027 Parkview Dr., died at 8:05 a.m. Sunday at home.
He was born on November 24, 1924 in North Cedar, Ohio, to John D. and Eva Scaffer Brecht and married Margaret Hancher on December 27, 1942; she survives.
He owned and operated Brecht Jewelry in downtown Decatur from 1955-75 and was a member of First Methodist Church and Elks Lodge 993, both in Decatur.
Other survivors are a son, Fred Brecht, Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Ann) Linnemeier, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. David (Sisan sic) Spiegel, Sebring, Florida; two sisters, Vivian Walther, Silver Lake, and Dorothy Freeman, North Manchester; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A brother Paul Brecht, and a sister, Belva Tooman, are deceased.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of First United Methodist Church, Decatur. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
