PORTSMOUTH - Frances M. Gray of Estates Lane departed this life on March 13, 2010 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, James A. Gray Sr. She was born on June 25, 1935 in Jacksonville, Fla., and later relocated with her parents to Portsmouth. While living in Portsmouth, she attended Our Lady of Victory School and graduated in 1954. After graduation, she worked at General Electric and Eastern Virginia Medical School and retired in 2000. She was a devoted member of the Our Lady of Victory Alumni Association and the Chesapeake Chums. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, James A. Gray Jr. (Dana) of Hampton and Daniel L. Gray (Joan) of Chicago; a sister, Litera Woodward of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Felicia Earl Wilks of Northern Virginia, Danielle Gray of Charlotte, N.C., Christopher Gray of Chesapeake, Raven Davis of Chicago and Khalid Fraley of Hampton; one great-granddaughter, Tatiana Gray of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday, March 17, at noon at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel St., Norfolk. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth.
