Married Maggie Kemp 26 January 1859 in Thomas County GA. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army as 2nd Lieutenant in the 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company H, "Thomas County Volunteers", and later Captain of the 12th Regiment, Georgia Militia, Company E, "Gandy's Unit". He was a General Merchant and Justice of the Peace.
