MARION E. BROWN

Marion Elizabeth Warren Brown, age 80, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Harry and Marion Moore Warren. She was reared and attended school in Fort Scott, graduating from Fort Scott High School in 1939. She later graduated from Fort Scott Junior College, now Fort Scott Community College, in 1943 with a bachelor of science degree in education.

She married Alfred R. Brown Jr. May 27, 1944 in DeRitter, La., and he preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2001.

She taught English, library science and home economics for schools in Cambridge, Lost Springs, Dexter and Oxford. She retired in 1978 following 23 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Bartlesville, Okla.

In 1988 she returned to Arkansas City, where she resided at the Presbyterian Manor.

She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and also had served as president of her college graduating class.

Survivors include two daughters, Margie Brookshire, Bartlesville, Okla., and Janice Sims, Arkansas City; one son, Robert Brown, Bartlesville; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The Salvation Army in the deceased's name, and may be made through Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. Ninth, P.O. Box 720, Winfield, 67156.
