The son of Confederate veteran Joseph Glisson and Mary ("Pollie") Ann Strickland Glisson, John Harmon Glisson, Sr. was born February 5, 1859 in Ivanhoe, Bulloch County, Georgia. He was one of twelve siblings. Family researcher Mark Richardson makes the excellent point that John Harmon Glisson, Sr.’s first wife was probably Darah Parrish whom he married on September 5, 1883. John and Darah had one child, Ella Glisson, born in 1884. It was probably after Darah’s death that John married his second wife. John married Sula Frances McClelland Glisson, and they had seven children: John Harmon Glisson, Jr., James Daniel Glisson, Annie Glisson, Bessie B. Glisson Johnson, Howard T. Glisson, Norwood Glisson, and Myrtle Glisson. One of John's sisters, Manie, married his second wife's brother, William.

John died at age 70 on September 15, 1929 in Bulloch County and is buried at Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County. I hope someone will add his photo to this site.

Thanks so much to the Glisson and McClelland family genealogists for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know.

Thanks to Robert Thompson for John Glisson's Georgia death certificate number: 35365-K. And thanks to Mark Richardson for information that John Glisson was probably married twice.
