US Senator, Georgia Governor. Elected as a Senator from Georgia, he served from 1848 to 1849. Also served as a Candidate for United States Representative in 1853, State Court Judge in 1849, and from 1873 until his death in 1880, Democratic Candidate for United States Vice President in 1860, Delegate to the Georgia Secession Convention in 1861, Senator from Georgia in the Confederate Congress from 1863 to 1865, and Delegate to the Georgia State Constitutional Convention in 1865. From 1853 to 1857 Johnson was the Governor of Georgia.
