GALVESTON — Walter Lawrence Allen, 57, was called from this earthly home to his heavenly home on, January 22, 2006, at UTMB. Walter was born on January 19, 1949, in Galveston, Texas, to Andrew Augustus Allen, Jr. (Little Gus) and Juanita Silliman Allen. He attended Central High School, where he was a star basketball player, graduating with the class of 1967. He also attended Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas. He served four years in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1974. At the time of his death he was employed by Gulf Greyhound Park. He was a member of Carter Temple CME Church of Galveston.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Andrew Augustus Allen III, (Baby Gus), and his sister Trenia Penn.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, two daughters, a son, fourteen grandchildren, two sisters, three nephews and one niece, his extended family of Lake Charles, Louisiana, California, his classmates of the CHS class of 1967, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2006, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., at Tottenham Funeral Home, 5410 Hwy 1765 & Hwy 3, Texas City, TX, followed by a Wake Service, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Homegoing services will be held at Tottenham Funeral Home, Saturday January 28, 2006, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Leonard N. Barksdale, of Fifth Ward Baptist Church officiating. The body will be laid to rest in the Memorial Cemetery, Galveston, Texas.
