Rosene Aston took the hand of her Savior and entered Heaven on Friday, June 17, 2011, from The Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital at Williamsport.

The daughter of the late Walter and Carrie (Marshall) Winters, Rosene was married to her beloved husband Kenneth for 55 years until his death on June 27, 2002.

A faithful soldier of The Salvation Army, she devoted her life in service to God by taking care of others. Rosene succeeded her mother as leader of the Williamsport Salvation Army Women's Home League. After her retirement, she accepted that position again when it was left vacant, and was still faithfully doing this job until a few weeks before her Promotion to Glory. She expressed her love by providing food for low-income families, cooking for church programs and projects, delivering holiday cookies and breads to family and friends, and brightening the day of shut-ins and nursing home residents with "goodie" bags. The impact of her Christian witness was felt throughout the community through her voluntary service. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxillary, Church Women United, and Christian Women's Club.

She invested in the spiritual well-being of the younger generations, serving for years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. When children in the Salvation Army congregation showed improvement on their report cards, she handed out hugs and dollar bills. She was a constant supporter of their school and church fund-raisers.

Rosene and her late husband loved the Crosscutters. A season ticket holder, her cheers resounded through the stadium at every home game, and the team members were the frequent recipients of her culinary arts.

Family was Rosene's greatest passion, and she especially reveled in her great- grandchildren. In spite of her disease-wracked body, she would get on the floor to play with her babies. She was adored as the family matriarch and will be sorely missed.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brothers Robert and Charles Bowling, and her treasured brother Walter Winters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Valerie Aston, of Philadelphia; two daughters, Major Ruth and husband Major Ray Bartholomew of Milton, and Karen J. Gair, of South Williamsport; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Renee, and Aaron Gair; David, Datya, and Arianna Aston; James and Johnathan Bartholomew, and Summer Harrison; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, from the Salvation Army Citadel, 457 N. Market St., Williamsport. Captain James C. Kisser, Jr., Corps Commanding Officer, will conduct the service.

Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, Williamsport.
