French Aviation Pioneer. Born in Méru (Oise), Northern France, he was veteran pioneer of early aviation. Other then being an accomplished pilot, he was also a flight mechanic, navigator and radio operator. He was most noted for setting numerous flight records in the 1920s, including a long distance record in Siberia and the world's record flight from the Paris to Tsitsikar. On September 1 and 2, 1930, together with pilot Dieudonné Costes, they became the first people to make a direct nonstop flight between Paris and New York.
