Jacob Awl died in Paxtang Township, Dauphin County, Pa. He was an Ensign and Lieutenant in Colonel John Elder's battalion of rangers in the frontier wars from 1756 to 1764 and aided in the pursuit of the Revolutionary War.

On the brass sign (see photo), he is listed as "Private Jacob Awl."
