On October 1, 1850, he (John Courts Bagby) married Miss Mary A. Scripps, a native of Cape Girardeau county, Missouri, and daughter of George H. {Scripps} and Mary (Hyler) Scripps. They have been blessed with nine children {who survived past infancy, 10 total}:
i. Mary Frances Bagby.
ii. John S. Bagby.
iii. Virginia Ellen Bagby (died at the age of eleven years).
iv. Albert Bagby.
v. Morris Bagby.
vi. George Henry Bagby (died aged twenty-seven years).
vii. William Ray Bagby (died in infancy).
viii. Catherine B. Bagby.
ix. Arthur F. Bagby.
x. Edwin H. Bagby.
