Evelyn Hooper Shackelford Russell Burkhead, 93, of Henderson, died Thursday evening, January 18, 2007 at Northbrook Nursing Home in Jackson.

The widow of R. P. Shackelford, Sr., who died January 9, 1977, Frank Russell, who died January 18, 1996 and Jack Burkhead, who died January 23, 2000, she retired as a school teacher. Mrs. Burkhead was born June 29, 1913 in Chester County, daughter of the late Jerry and Pearl Jordan Hooper and lived in Bolivar for over 10 years and in Memphis for a few years before making her home in Henderson 20 years ago. Mrs. Burkhead enjoyed needlework, quilting, crossword puzzles and traveling. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the Golden Sounds Choir at Bolivar First Baptist Church and a member of Henderson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one nephew, Kenneth Hooper of Henderson; three great nephews, Kevin and Nathan Hooper, both of Henderson, Tony Hooper of Jackson and two great, great nephews, Riley and Cody Hooper.
