World War II United States Army Air Corps Soldier. He was a crew member of the B-29 Superfortress bomber "Enola Gay" when it performed it's mission on August 6, 1945 to drop the atomic bomb "Little Boy" on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Private Nelson served as the VHF radio operator on the flight.
