Norma was born on July 3, 1912, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Nelson) Fisher. She spent the majority of her life in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1930, and then went on to work as a bookkeeper and stenographer with the Union Bond and Mortgage Company. Norma married James H. "Jim" Paulsen on September 28, 1935, in Longview, Washington. They returned to Davenport in 1936 to raise their two sons. Jim passed away in December 1983.
Norma belonged to the Scott County King's Daughters and the Putnam Museum Guild. She was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where she frequently volunteered. Her deep faith in God was demonstrated in how she lived every day of her life. Her compassion, kindheartedness, and optimistic view on life were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Those left behind to honor her memory include her sons, James M. Paulsen, Walcott, and Dr. Grant L. (Pat) Paulsen, West Des Moines; as well as her six grandchildren, Matthew, Kathryn, David, Mark, Scott and Kristen; and seven great-grandchildren, Isaiah, David, Ashley, Natalie, Jayden, Joseph and Nicholas.
Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, James H. Paulsen, her parents, Charles H. and Nellie R. (Nelson) Fisher, a sister, Vera Rohlf, a brother, Lester Fisher (who was killed in action in 1945 during World War II), and an infant son, Mark R. Paulsen.
