Patty was born in Howard, Kansas on December 30, 1941, to William and Wilma Ransbottom Towery. After her parents' deaths while she was young, she lived with her grandparents and her aunts, who were raised like her sisters. In 1958, she moved to Haviland, Kansas to attend Friends Bible College, and met and married Raymond Edward Martin.
Patty and Raymond, "Shorty," moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1962, to begin a ministry in the Friends tradition. Along with establishing San Antonio Friends Chapel, recruiting and mentoring Spanish-speaking pastors for churches in San Antonio and Mexico, the Martins also opened San Antonio Friends School for special needs children and adolescents. Patty dedicated her life to service to others, through church ministry, as an educator and counselor, and as a mother, grandmother, and friend. She was fiercely independent with an unflagging will to live, having overcome Stage Four cancer in 1983.
