DOROTHEA LOUISE "DORT" BECK was born October 19, 1936, near Lyons, Nebraska, to Raymond and Elva (Crosby) Christensen. She passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at her home in rural Lyons, at the age of 74 years.
Dorothea attended Lyons schools, graduating from Lyons High School in 1954.
On February 27, 1955, Dorothea married Morris Beck. They lived on a farm northeast of Lyons until Morris was drafted into the Army. After two years, they returned to the Lyons area.
As a teenager, Dorothea worked at the Lyons bakery. She later worked as a waitress at the cafes in Lyons, before she began working at the Lyons Mini Mart in the mid ‘80s.
Dorothea and Morris were members of the United Methodist Church until they transferred to the Divide Center Presbyterian Church. They later moved their membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris (February 20, 2002); brothers, David and Delbert Christensen; son-in-law, Mark Strom.
Survivors include her children, Vanessa Strom and special friend, Gerry Gerch of Oakland, Mike Beck of rural Decatur, NE, Joanne Callahan and husband, Wade, of Fremont, NE; six grandchildren, Chris (Katherine) Strom of Ceresco, NE, Molly Strom (fiancé, Jesse Hansen) of Bancroft, NE, Jessica Peterson, Dustyn Peterson, Austin Callahan, Brennan Callahan all of Fremont; two great grandsons, Marshall Strom of Ceresco, Daltyn Hansen of Bancroft; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, June 14, 2011, 2:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.
VISITATION: Monday, June 13, 2011, 5 - 8 p.m. at with family receiving friends 5 - 7 at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Visitation Tuesday will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
