SALEM - Yvonne was born to Lloyd and Bernice Walters in Watertown, South Dakota.
The family moved to Oregon in 1933. Yvonne attended Parrish Junior High and North Salem High, graduating in 1938. Yvonne worked for Met Life in Salem for 38 wonderful years.Yvonne was a very active member of Court Street Christian, for 60+ years. She taught many, many children during her 50 years as a teacher in the Sunday School program. She truly enjoyed each and every one of them, and was so proud to see them later in life after they had grown up.
Yvonne married Alvin Armstrong on Nov. 17, 1942. They lived in Texas while Alvin served in the Air Force. They celebrated their 63rd Anniversary this past year. They were blessed with their beloved daughter, Sandi Kay in 1949. Sandi died in 1997 from Breast Cancer.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Alvin; granddaughters; Michelle (Jason) Land and Gina (William) Haynes; grandson, Scott (Tiffany) Eastlund; great-grandchildren, Maryssa, Jackson, Benjamin, and Garrett; aunt Catherine Lenninger, and niece Linda (Harry) Edminster all of Salem. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeanne Meneice, and daughter Sandi.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at Court Street Christian on Saturday, July 8th. Donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the name of Sandi K. Edwards. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
