OBITUARY

BURRELL HAWVER

Mr. Burrell Hawver, 92, of Old Fort Plain Road, town of Canajoharie, died Saturday morning Nov. 3, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born on July 12, 1909 in the town of Palatine, N.Y., the son of George and Maru Burrell Hawver. He graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1929 and graduated from Pratt Instituite in Brooklyn in 1933. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Hawver was employed at the former Arkell and Smith Sack Factory in Canajoharie for 19 years. Then he worked at Beech-Nut/Life Savers, Canajoharie, N.Y., as a machine operator, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia, and a member of Missionary Society and of the Men's Group at said church.

Survivors include one son, Robert B. Hawver from town of Canajoharie; two grandchildren, William Hawver from Myakka City, Fla., and Traci Lynn Stanck from Palmetto, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Hawver from Myakka City, Fla., Hunter James Stanck and Holli Marie Stanck, both from Palmetto, Fla.

On April 15, 1939, he married Mildred Young in Stone Arabia, who died on September 30, 1997. He was predeceased by a grandson, Robert B. Hawver, Jr., who died on July 25, 1985 and a great-gramdspm, Taylor Hawver, who died in 1993.

Calling hours were 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia. The Rev. Newton Perrins will officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia, in care of the funeral home.
