Werner served as a Corporal on B-29 (#42-24536), 484th Bomber Squadron, 505th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 194 Norton Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 31, 1944 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as a Laboratory technician and/or assistant and also as Single, without dependents.

Werner died in the "Line Of Duty" when his bomber crashed on takeoff from Barksdale Field, Louisiana during the war.

The crew had stopped for refueling during a training flight, prior to being shipped to the Marianas Islands in preparation for missions against Japan.

This was the only fatal B-29 training loss for the 484th Squadron.
