U.S. Congressman. He attended Washington State College, moved to Wilsall, Montana, in 1910, worked in the Forest Service, plus engaged in farming. He served in the Montana State House of Representatives, (1937-39) and was member of the Montana State Senate, (1941-45). In 1945, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James F. O’Connor and reelected to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1955. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as assistant to the Secretary of Agriculture and Department of the Interior assistant to the Secretary, (1955-58). He also was a member of the Western States Water Council, (1966-69) and was a director of the National Water Resources Association.
